Kisii Soapstone Chess Set / Medium Handmade Chess Board

Bring a piece of Kenya to your game table with this handmade Kisii soapstone chess set. This is the medium size, with a folding board in rich red and cream and a full set of hand-carved pieces for both sides. The pieces are shaped one by one, so each king, queen, bishop, knight, rook, and pawn has its own small differences in shape and finish.

Kisii soapstone is a soft, smooth stone from the Kisii highlands of western Kenya, long known for its skilled carvers. It is easy to shape, takes a fine polish, and has a cool, silky feel in the hand. The red and cream colors give the set a classic, warm look that works as a playing set and as a display piece on a desk, shelf, or coffee table.

The folding board closes with a small clasp, so the pieces stay inside for storage and travel. Use it for family game nights, club play, and teaching beginners, or give it to a chess lover as a gift with a story behind it. Each set is hand-carved and finished by hand, so color, size, and carving details vary slightly from set to set.
